These diagrams help designers in understanding the utility flows to process units, the basic control system that regulate flow between process units, piping configuration, all entering and exit connections, limited details on internals (e.g., trays), drains, instrument connections, all sensors (including location of display and calculation), valves, utility streams, safety equipment, isolation valves, and machinery (motors).
